DRAWN ALUMINIUM TUBE

THE DRAWING PROCESS

Sometimes the tubes may require to be drawn after the extrusion process. Drawn aluminium tubes are usually required when

  • tight tolerances are required for the aluminium tubes
  • outside diameter or wall thickness of the extruded tubes needs to be reduced
  • a required strength class for naturally hard alloys is to be attained by cold forming
  • there are special requirements for the microstructure of the tubes

If the aluminium tubes meet one or more of the above requirements, we carry out the respective drawing steps after the extrusion process. By repeating several drawing operations, very thin wall thicknesses (0.5 mm) are possible. After several cycles of the drawing process, the formability of the aluminium decreases. Soft annealing brings the aluminium back to a readily formable state.

Drawing is possible with seamless extruded tubes as well as with porthole extruded tubes. All commercially available aluminium alloys can be processed by cold drawing.
