ALUMINIUM TUBES FOR AVIATION

PRODUCTION REQUIREMENTS FOR AVIATION ALUMINUM TUBES

Aluminiumwerk Unna AG produces aluminum tubes for the aviation industry. Examples in practice include control rods, driveshafts, door and seat components and media-carrying tubes (high and low pressure range). In terms of processing the tube material and due to the number of processing alloys with medium to difficult extrudability, these applications are all highly demanding.

In this illustration, you can see where our aluminium tubes are used for aircraft or helicopters..

Aluminum tubes for the aviation industry must meet strict requirements during production. For complying with these requirements, Aluminiumwerk Unna AG undergoes regular audits by both customers and external certification companies. This ensures that our tubes meet the required standards.

For this reason, in the production of aluminum tubes for aviation applications, we give particular attention to complying with the requirements of surface quality, dimensions and tolerances, and mechanical properties, amongst others.

In many cases we also perform special tests (electrical conductivity, eddy current, ultrasonic and corrosion tests). The critical parameters of each manufacturing step are controlled and monitored for each production lot. Many aviation aluminum tubes require qualified heat treatment to achieve the final strength of the material. At our aluminum plant, we perform the heat treatment process in compliance with the appropriate specifications (e.g. AMS 2772), and our furnaces meet the requirements of AMS 2750.
